There we have it. The presumption that something is "new" because a magazine such as this for some reason takes a selective stance on the news it reports.

This is where social enterprise strays into dishonesty.

Hi Adrienne - great post! Whenever something is "new", it's natural to express uncertainty about whether the new model will "work". I think most people would agree that in the early days, they did not think that Mohammed Yunus' microfinance model would work. Yet look at how well it did! : ) Social impact investing offers similar promise, imho ; ). Just last week I had the very good fortune to talk with Antony Bugg-Levine, Managing Director at Rockefeller Foundation, about impact investing, GIIN, and the IRIS standards for measurement. I captured our chat on VIDEO. Here is the link to hear first-hand from Antony about GIIN - I hope everyone finds this video useful. The part about GIIN begins at 2:40 in this video. Enjoy : )

I added a comment earlier which has yet to appear. It describes an early adoption of this approach which resulted in the success of a development initiative in Russia.

Saying that "nobody knows if it will work" is untrue as far as I'm concerned.
